The Immaculate Conception Celebrated with Great Pomp in Gabon

Source: FSSPX News

The preparatory novena for the Immaculate Conception that began on November 29 drew more and more faithful to the Mission every evening; they wished to offer “Mother Mary” a feast day celebrated like never before!

Indeed, this year being the 160th anniversary of the apparitions of Our Lady in Lourdes, where she said, “I am the Immaculate Conception”, it was fitting that this day of December 8 should be exceptionally important in our dear Mission where the grotto of Massabielle has been enthroned for nearly 6 years now.

Over a thousand faithful generously came on the beautiful evening of December 8 for the candlelight procession; they left the boys’ school in the Rio district then processed through the well-lit and sometimes noisy streets of the city, singing out loudly the greatness of Mary with the light of all their candles burning like so many souls consumed with love for “Mother Mary”. They processed for several kilometers before arriving triumphantly at the Mission.

The evening was full of graces for our Gabonese faithful, our Sisters, our seminarians and priests, especially Frs. Raphaël Tassot and Paul Perrot, who made their final engagement into the Society during the beautiful Solemn High Mass enhanced by the melodious Gregorian chant of our devoted Sisters (and even a few polyphonic pieces). May our dear Mother in Heaven keep these two new members faithful and guard them under the protection of her mantle!
