Mission Sunday
Dear faithful, friends and benefactors,
It is with great confidence that the District of Africa of the Society of Saint Pius X addresses you, on the eve of the annual collection for the Missions. This year, two Districts in Europe have agreed to offer us their collection for the Missions. We also thought it would be a good idea for the chapels of the District of Africa to take part in this annual collection to support the various projects of the District of Africa. It's an exercise in fraternal charity, and a way for everyone to turn their eyes towards their brothers in the faith in other countries.
By supporting our work on Sunday 20 October 2024, you will enable us to complete projects that have already been started, some of which are almost finished, but for which we still need to ask for the charity of the faithful.
We currently have three projects in progress:
-
Completing the classrooms at Notre Dame de La Providence high school in Gabon. Our girls have already been able to use their classrooms for a month. However, we still have a lot of finishing work to do, and a loan that needs to be repaid. The opening of the "Terminale" (Grade 12) a few weeks ago marked the end of a long pilgrimage that began more than ten years ago, when the Notre Dame de La Providence School opened its first primary school classes for girls.
-
The installation of a collective kitchen at the Juvénat du Sacré Cœur, our school for boys, also in Gabon, is the second project selected. This school has been offering all grades since 2015. However, we still need to carry out a number of physical improvements, including this one.
Le Juvénat du Sacré Coeur and Notre-Dame de La Providence are part of the Saint Pius X Mission in Gabon and have around 450 pupils. -
The third project is in Abuja, the capital of Nigeria, 400 km from our priory. We have been saying Sunday Mass there in a private house for over ten years, for around a hundred faithful. We are actively looking for land to buy, so that we can build a chapel there in the future and own our place of worship.
Rest assured that in return our 25 priests and brothers, and our 11 nuns who devote themselves to all the priories and schools in Africa will pray for you and your families.
This collection for the Missions of Africa does not make us forget the sadness caused by the recall to God of His Excellency Bishop Tissier de Mallerais, bishop of the Society of Saint Pius X. His many trips to Africa bear witness to the countless spiritual benefits that our District owes him. May his soul rest in peace.
May God bless you all.
