The Society in Africa: A Young Community’s Missionary Zeal
The goal of the congregation of the Missionary Sisters of Jesus and Mary is to work for the sanctification of souls through the generous offering of self in the work of the apostolate, while respecting the needs of the common good of the Congregation, the Society of St. Pius X, and the Church in missionary countries.
The First General Assistant of the Priestly Society of St. Pius X, Fr. Niklaus Pfluger, preached a retreat from September 17 to 23, 2017, for the sisters of this congregation established in Kenya in 2011 by Bishop Fellay.
During the retreat, he commented on the sisters’ Constitutions and insisted upon the importance of the Mass that must be the soul of all apostolate, the key to true success, and the heart of the devotion of the Missionary Sisters of Jesus and Mary.
May these sisters become souls like unto Our Lady, missionaries at the service of the Church, singing the glory of the Triune God. One of the sisters explained to FSSPX.News after the retreat: “This spirituality is not our own; it is that of our founder, Bishop Bernard Fellay, who received it from Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre. It is that of the Church; it is the spirituality of the Gospel, the most beautiful and the only true spirituality.”
It was with the words Vade, et fac similiter – Go and do likewise – that Fr. Pfluger concluded his retreat, leaving this young traditional community with a beautiful encouragement to rise above the difficulties that come with any foundation, especially in missionary lands.
